Distances are straight-line, computed from published coordinates — not drive times. In this metro the drive is reliably longer than the line, and the gap is worst exactly when you will be driving it.

Reading this table honestly

Straight-line distance flatters a commute. A 6-mile line across Dallas at 8am is not a 12-minute drive, and anything that crosses a downtown, an airport perimeter or the LBJ/635 corridor should be assumed worse than it looks here. Use the table to build a shortlist, then drive the actual route at the actual hour before you sign anything. That single trip will tell you more than every listing you read.

The second thing worth knowing: proximity is not always the win. Living two miles from a hospital campus means living in hospital-campus parking and traffic; some people would rather be six miles out on the right side of the highway. Shift workers in particular should weigh the direction of travel against rush hour rather than raw distance.
