Franklin walks a line that most small Southern towns try and fail to walk: genuinely historic without being a museum, economically booming without losing its character. Cool Springs, about 4 miles southeast of downtown, is the commercial counterweight. McCreary's Irish Pub — Main Street pub with live music most nights. The fish and chips are solid and the atmosphere is warm.

Frothy Monkey — Coffee and all-day cafe on Main Street. The avocado toast is not ironic — it's just good. The drip coffee is sourced and roasted in Nashville.
